Rugby Cranes finished seventh in the first of the two tournaments at the Emirates Invitational Sevens in Dubai.

Uganda beat Spain 24-19 to seal seventh spot. The side had lost their three group games to finish bottom.

They later lost to France 45:07 in Quarters.

In placement games, the team lost to Canada in Plate semis and beat Spain in fight for seventh place.

Solomon Okia (2), Norbert Okeny and Adrian Kasito scored the tries, the latter and Ofoyrwoth added the conversions in win against Spain.

“The game was tough like the 5 previous games that we played. The lads put in a good shift and good a result in the end,” said coach Tolbert Onyango after the win against Spain as quoted by URU.

“Our objective is to get to test our structures in a high intensity environment and this is perfect for us. Looking forward the next hit out in a few days.”

“We are learning which areas to tweak to ensure we are competitive come June. No better way to learn than to play top 7s teams in the world.”

“On a low note we lost Pius Ogena through concussion so he won’t be able to take part in the rest of the games but glad hereafter and up and will be running in a couple of weeks.”
