MYDA FC head coach Musafiri Abdu Samadu has been sacked, The-SportsNation can reliably confirm.
Musafiri, the artichect of MYDA’s rise to top flight football, leaves the side in a lowly15th position on the Premier League log having collected just six points from 16 games.
The flying Eagles have one win, eight losses and are six points adrift of safety.
Assistant coach Elisa Madanda, who was the head coach before Musafiri’s arrival has been named as the interim coach as the management looks for a permanent replacement.
They lost 2-1 to SC Villa last week, the final nail in Musafiri’s coffin.
MYDA have a doubleheader against Big League side Proline in Uganda Cup before visiting Mbarara City FC on April 13 in the league.
The side, is the latest to sack a coach after Kyetume, KCCA, Mbarara City and Onduparaka.
What Went Wrong For Musafiri?
Musafiri guided MYDA FC to back-to-back promotions: from Regional to Big League then to top flight later on after the season was canceled due to Covid19.
Inadequate preparations, hosting matches away from home and financial struggles have been some of the stumbling blocks for the club’s progress in the league.
Many expected MYDA to struggle, but not to this extent that they could go into the last match of the first round in search of their first win.
Musafiri, in a recent interview, commented that his team struggled due to lack of experienced players in the team.
But the struggles mainly off the pitch have been their biggest undoing. They have arrived at games late, notably at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium where they reached minutes past game time against Wakiso Giants.
The sacking was just inevitable as many fans showed their discontent during matchdays in Tororo.
The team has failed to fetch results right from day one and the board, to a certain extent, has been patient.
Musafiri had started to miss the team’s training sessions, only coming a day to the game.
During away games, he couldn’t return with the team in Malaba, making his stops in Jinja.
After the loss to SC Villa, the angry fans stormed the club offices in Malaba and team manager Denis Ayet had to whisker Musafiri away.
It will surely take a miracle of sorts for MYDA to turn things around, but there is still hope.
