Fortebet Real Stars Sports Awards winners have been crowned in a ceremonious event on Tuesday morning at Route 256 in Lugogo.
Derrick Kakooza (Football), Maxwell Ebonga (Rugby), Joan Nampuugu (Netball) and Irene Nakalembe (Golf) are the best of March in their respective disciplines.
The awards seeks to recognise sports excellence in Uganda monthly.
Police striker Kakooza, escorted by his father and agent Geoffrey Kayemba Solo, beat Steven Mukwala (URA) and Sadat Anaku (KCCA).
He was the top scorer in the just concluded 2020 AFCON U20 finals held in Mauritania, helping the team to clinch a silver medal.
“Its a big honor for me to be recognised, I have to thank my parents for supporting me and I vow to continue to work hard to achieve my targets,”K Kakooza stated.
Nakalembe was named the best golfer following her seventh consecutive win at Entebbe Ladies Open.
She beat Joseph Cwinya-ai and Martha Nabirye. ” I was seventh after the first day, but I kept believing. Thanks to the organisers for this award and I hope to be back to win more.”
Jinja Hippos full back Maxwell Ebonga beat Betway KOBs duo Justin Kimono and Pius Ogena thanks to his five tries and six conversions.
He briefly stated: “What made me standout is my hard work each day. I thank my teammates and club for having put trust in me.”
Nampungu beat She Cranes teammates Irene Echalu and Shafie Namwanja after her outstanding performance at the concluded Spar Challenge Tri-Nations series in Cape Town, South Africa where she was voted defender of the series.
She commented: “This is big for me, I am very happy to be named the best Netball player for month of March. I thank the media, Real Stars committee and the Netball Federation (UNF).”
