Uganda Cup Round of 32
Kyetume FC 2-2 Express FC
FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru
Substitute Eric Kambale continued his fine run of form as he netted a late header in Express’s 2-2 draw away to Kyetume FC in the Uganda Cup round of 32 on Tuesday.
The forward who had moments earlier replaced Frank Kalanda neatly glanced Enock Walusimbi’s cross past the stranded Joel Mutakubwa to level matters for Express.
Early in the contest, Kyetume had twice taken the lead and looked to be on course for their first victory in 12 competitive games.
First, Ezra Kaye headed home Julius Ntambi’s cross to hand the hosts a 7-minute lead.
Express responded swiftly as John Byamukama’s intended cross dropped into the net.
On 62, substitute Walugembe restored Kyetume’s lead with a fine header off Richard Matovu’s cross.
The Red Eagles who were coming off a 3-1 victory against URA in the league pressed for late winner but Kambale, who has now scored four goals in his last three games, failed to connect with an overhead kick before blasting over from just outside the area.
The Express technical team made several changes to the team that beat URA and were happy with the result.
“I am happy that the players who came in have performed extremely well. Said head coach Wasswa Bbosa after the game.
“It is a tricky schedule so the players need rest so that they can be able to finish the whole season without fatigue issues.
“Good enough we have got a draw on the road so we will go back at home and try to complete the task.”
This was the second successive draw by the two sides having drawn 0-0 in their first meeting this season.
With this season’s Uganda Cup being played on home and away basis, Express will host Kyetume this weekend at Wankulukuku to determine who progressed to the last 16.
Kaye headed in Ntambi cross on 7 minutes.
Byamukama cross goes straight into goal on 15 minutes.
Walugembe headed Matovu cross on 62 minutes.
Kambale header on 74 minutes.
