The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) President Moses Magogo has come out and suggested that the CHAN players have no right to demand for money.
Uganda took part in the just concluded CHAN tournament in Cameroon where they failed to negotiate past the group stages.
They collected one point from their three group games after drawing against Rwanda and losing to both Togo and Morocco.
Just like all players representing the nation at various tournaments, they are entitled to allowances once they storm camp up to the moment they return home.
However, the players who were in Cameroon are yet to receive those allowances from FUFA, something that Magogo says is true.
“There has been a rumour going on that the CHAN players are yet to be paid. Yes these players have not been paid but we are working on it just like the case with the Hippos. Magogo said during his quarterly media interaction at Jevine Hotel in Rubaga on Tuesday, April 06.
“This has always happened at FUFA that when we come out and promise players, time comes and we pay them.
“We operate an institution that has debtors and creditors like all institutions in Uganda even those that have been financially successful. When you look at their books of accounts, they have debts and are also owed money. So this is not an exception.
“We have spent just two months since CHAN ended but the government cycle for payments is three months. So there is no big difference and when time comes, we will pay those players and we will not call the media just like we have been paying others without calling you (media). So this is not a big deal.
Magogo also came out and said that these players should look at their performance in Cameroon and gauge whether they are in position be demanding for money.
“After the sort of performance that they put out in Cameroon, these players should not even be demanding for payment.
“When you demand for money, what have you put in the table. They went there and played sh**y football and then come back and demand for money. Okay, what are you demanding, what have you done?”
The CHAN tournament in Cameroon marked the 5th successive time that Uganda has failed to progress past the group stages of the competition.
