Mahatlane Hopes Uganda Push Namibia Harder In 50-Over Series

Cricket Cranes coach Laurence Mahatlane wants his side to give Namibia a big run for their money when the two sides face off in 50-over series.

Uganda lost the T20i series 3-0 and will seek solace in the two 50-over games that start on Wednesday.

“We were outplayed, it just showed, Namibia were excellent, they really used the pressure moments so well,” Mahatlane reflected on the T20i series loss.

“Am disappointed with the result obviously, but I have gotten an idea of where we are, the players we have and how they react under pressure.

“We were not consistent and ruthless enough. They were superb and hopeful we can push them harder in the next two games.”

The two 50-over games against Namibia kickstart Uganda’s long journey to achieve ODI status.

Namibia, a One Day International side, are where Uganda dream to be at the moment.

The games will also be fine tuning the Cranes for the ICC World Cricket Challenge League due September in Jersey, a group Uganda lead after the successful first leg that saw the side win five games from as many in 2019 in Oman.

Mahatlane stated: “Having 50-over Cricket is something that we focused a lot on given what our objectives are. Its an opportunity for guys to test themselves against an International One Day side.”

“Hopefully in the next two games we will put our heads high.”

Batting, as it has been in the past, is still the team’s weakest link but lapses in concentration with the ball during the last four overs of the third game of the T20i series left a lot to be desired as well.

The games are being played at Wanderers Cricket Ground, Windhoek, and are streamed live on Cricket Namibia Facebook/YouTube Pages.
