Uganda Cup: Arua Hill Overcomes UPDF

Arua Hill took the honours as they scrapped past UPDF FC 3-2 in the first leg of their Uganda Cup round of 32 tie on Wednesday.

Rashid Kawawa, Mike Kawooya and Alfred Leku were all on target for the hosts while Alex Kitata and Vuni Bright Joseph scored for UPDF.

Arua Hill SC the brighter of the two sides in the opening minutes as they asked several questions of the UPDF defence.

The dominant hosts were rewarded with a deserved lead as Rashid Kawawa broke the deadlock from a Gaddafi Gadinho pass in the 16th minutes.

Later in the 35th minutes the Kongolo doubled their lead after Mike Kawooya headed in Emmanuel Mutebi’s corner kick to give the home side a two goal advantage.

However, the visitors pulled one back through Alex Kitata header at the stroke of half time.

Gaddafi then floated in a free kick that found Alfred Leku but the striker could not connect with the ball to restore Arua Hill’s two-goal caution.

Two minutes after Leku miss, Bright levelled matters for UPDF, heading off Zzinda Hassan’s corner in the 58th minutes.

Leku immediately restored the Big League Money Bags’ lead in the 61 Minutes.

Despite late pressure from the visitors, Arua held on to register a first leg advantage.

The second leg of this encounter will be played at the Bombo Barracks Military Stadium on Sunday 11th April.
