*Busoga United 1-2 Vipers SC
(Vipers win 5-1 on aggregate)
Vipers eased into the round of 16 of this year’s Uganda Cup after beating Busoga United in a game played at FUFA Technical centre in Njeru.
Substitute Lawrence Tezikya daggered his former pay masters in the 84th minute after Isaac Wagoina had canceled Yunus Ssentamu’s opener for visitors.
Vipers had done enough damage in the first leg at Kitende where a brace from Caesar Manzoki and Ibrahim Orit’s strike had given the side a big cushion.
Substitute Tezikya who joined Vipers from Busoga United at the start of the season, raced on Joseph Dhata’s defense split pass to strike far away from Rogers Omedwa reach.
Wagoina had given Busoga United lifeline when he planted a powerful header from a corner in the second half.
Ssentamu’s goal came in the 24th minute thanks to donkey work from winger Richard Basangwa who drove to the byline before making a cutback that the striker sliced home.
The hosts, right at the start showed no urge to overturn a 3-0 first leg deficit as they struggled to get hold of the ball and create chances.
However, they looked an improved side thanks to the introduction of Ivan Wani and Wagoina but their efforts couldn’t lead to a comeback.
Paul Ssekulima fired wide after Busoga went a goal down while Omedwa almost gifted the visitors the second when he fumbled with Aziz Kayondo’s cross.
The League’s leaders made a couple of changes in the team, with Ahmed Amayo, Bobosi Byaruhanga, Najib Yiga and Abraham Ndugwa all given starting places.
Ndugwa was teed up on the right flank by Basangwa but his shot was poor and way wide.
Vipers reach the round of 16 after they were eliminated by minnows Kajjansi United last season.
