Substitute Frank Kalanda dispatched an 86th minute penalty as Express FC beat Kyetume FC 1-0 in their Uganda Cup round of 32 second leg on Saturday.

Kalanda who replaced Muzamir Mutyaba at the start of the second half, converted from the spot after Felix Okot was judged to have brought down Martin Kizza in the area.

It was a welcome sight for the Red Eagles who, much like their opponents, spent most of the contest looking demotivated and lack of ideas especially upfront.

In a game that had limited goal-mouth action, Mutyaba had earlier set up Charles Musiige who saw his goal-bound effort charged down by Okot.

Kizza also had a sniff on goal but flashed his effort wide after good inter-play with John Byamukama at the edge of the Kyetume area.

Kyetume who have now gone 13 competitive games without victory looked pedestrian on the day with Ezra Kaye blasting over after pouncing on Enock Walusimbi’s stray pass into the area, in the first half, in their best if not only chance of the afternoon.

Having drawn 2-2 in the first leg, Express matches onto the round of 16 after winning the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

In their next fixtures, Express are away to eternal rivals SC Villa in the league, on Wednesday while Kyetume travel to Jinja to face BUL FC at Kakindu the day before.
