Preview – Latest Instalment Of Fierce Rivalry Unfolds At Bombo
This fixture was a title decider in the past but with Vipers SC and KCCA FC leapfrogging the two sides, it has lost the right to decide who win the league crown.
However, it still has the feel of a derby as it always tends to bring out the best in both Villa and Express.
With 16 games played so far this campaign, the two sides head into Wednesday’s contest separated by seven points.
Despite the small margin, the two have totally different ambitions as we head into the final bend of the campaign.
Express have their eyes set on winning a first title since 2012 while Villa are hoping to finish as high as they can on the table.
The Red Eagles saw both URA and Vipers win on Tuesday and as a result, they now sit four points off the top of the table.
Having defeated URA 3-0 in their last game, Wasswa Bbosa’s side will be smelling blood as they come up against another big side.
Their away record has been good this season as they have won five, drawn two and lost just once in eight games so far.
The suspension to Juuko is a tricky one for Bbosa going into the game as he is deprived of two starters at the back for game with the other being Kiggundu who has missed the last month or so.
It remains to be seen how Express who have majorly relied on their defence for results this season will cope.
For Villa, they have blown jot and cold this campaign and start the day in 6th, 11 points off top spot.
However, they must feel confident going into the game having won all three of their last League games.
The acquisition of Geoffrey Wasswa a few weeks ago added much needed steal in their back-line and they will hope the former Vipers players can inspire them to a famous result over their eternal rival.
This will be the 22nd meeting between the two sides since January 2011.
In the past 21 matches between the two, Villa have won 10 times, Express six with the other five all ending in draws.
Express heads into the game having won just one of their past seven games against Villa. The victory came in the first meeting between the two sides this campaign.
Villa have been formidable at home to Express in the last few seasons as they have won all of their past six games.
The last time Express won away to Villa was in April 2014 in a 2-0 league victory.
How to Watch
The game will be live on Sanyuka TV with kick-off at 4pm.
