Stalwart George Aporu To Fare In Coach-Player Capacity

Drastic times calls for drastic measures. The idiom perfectly fits the state of affairs at Uganda’s continental representatives Nemostars Volleyball club.

Under a huge strain of financial constraints, the Six time league champions assembled contingent of 10 members that departed on Friday to compete at the African Club Championships in the Tunisian City of Sousse.

The biennial tournament throws off on Sunday and will culminate on April 27th.

However, the team was dealt with an early blow after Coach Andrew Okapis was left home due to financial burdens.

“I didn’t get the Air ticket so i had to stay behind so as to make a team of 10 players”, Okapis revealed.

George Aporu assumes Coach-player roles

Experienced stalwart George Aporu will then act in the capacity of Coach- player role.

The former League MVP will don two hats. One as a player and other as a coach. That’s an enormous task on Aporu’s hands but Coach Okapis has backed his trusted lieutenant to excel.

“He is experienced enough to do both and will deliver.” Okapis who once played with Aporu stated.

Smith Okumu, Savior Atama and Emma Elanyu are the other tried and tested players that made the trip.

The Kololo based side will be seeking to better the 6th place finish they managed at the 2019 edition in Cairo.
