Vipers missed a chance to go three points clear atop following their goalless draw against Wakiso Giants.

The Venoms will rue missed chances in a game they could have won by a good scoreline at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

Coming into the game, Vipers had not lost a single point at home in all their previous nine league games.

Youngster Karim Watambala curled his effort wide while Richard Basangwa also shot off target with a goal at his mercy before the first half ended goalless.

Caesar Manzoki had two open chances to send Vipers in the lead at restart but the striker headed over the bar and later shot in a similar manner.

On for Basangwa, substitute Paul Mucureezi missed what was the day’s best chance when he failed to beat Wakiso Giants goalkeeper Derrick Emukule.

The former Mbarara City winger was presented with a chance to redeem himself but headed Bobosi Byaruhanga cross over the frame.

The visitors, who had lost their first league meeting 1-0 at Kitende last season, barely threatened but managed to absorb pressure on their way for a vital point.

Lanky midfielder Joshua Lubwama teed up Pius Kaggwa but the former Police star was denied by Vipers goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya in the third minute.

Kaggwa later again faced Ssekagya but the goalkeeper was equal to the effort.

Wakiso couldn’t leave Kitende unscathed, however, after their goalkeeping coach Swaibu Ssebagala was given marching orders in the 83rd minute.

Vipers move to 43 points, one above URA FC (42) who visit SC Villa on Wednesday.

Wakiso Giants move to 12th with 20 points, having recorded their 11th draw of the season.

What Next – Vipers host Express FC at Kitende on April 23 while Wakiso Giants will be on the road against Kyetume on the same day.
