Stanbic Uganda Cup: Express Land URA, Full Round of 16 Draw Revealed

Uganda Premier League sides Express FC and URA FC will face off in the Round of 16 of Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Express beat URA FC in both ties of the league and will seek to futher extend their dominance against Sam Ssimbwa’s side.

The first legs of the ties will be played in the week of May 1-6, with FUFA expected to attach actual dates per each fixture in the due course.

To reach this stage, Express FC eliminated Kyetume 3-2 on aggregate,, winning 1-0 at wankulukuku thanks to Frank Kalanda goal after the first leg had ended 2-2 in Njeru.

For URA FC, they knocked out Mbarara City. The first leg ended 0-0 and Brian Majwega scored the only goal at Kakyeka.

The match finds Express in poor form having failed to win their last three games – Lost to Bright Stars at the back of draws with Mbarara and SC Villa.

URA FC, are joint leaders in the league and will fancy their chances for the double this season.

Express have won 10 Uganda Cup titles, joint high with KCCA FC, while URA FC have three to their name.

Elsewhere, Vipers SC who knocked out Busoga United face Kefa Kisala’s UPDF FC, SC Villa have been handed an Onduparaka assignment while KCCA FC face Maroons.

At Round of 32, 15 of 16 games were played, with Kitara FC Vs Kigezi game postponed. The first leg was not honored after poor communication about match-day venue. FUFA has since rescheduled the first leg on April 29.

All teams at the round of 16, are already guaranteed of a minimum of Sh3m each as prize money from Cup sponsors Stanbic and Plascon paints.

The winner, at the final to be played on July 24 at a yet to be named venue, will bank Sh50m.

It should be noted that this year’s Cup is competed for by only UPL and Big League clubs. The tourney is being played on a home and away basis until the final.

Wakiso Giants midfielder Tom Masiko is the leading scorer with three goals.
