Preview – Mbarara Hoping To Continue Fine Run Against The Big Boys
Mbarara City will be hoping to continue their fine run of results against the big boys of Ugandan football when they host SC Villa on Saturday.
The Ankole Lions have impressed against the top sides recently taking five out of a possible nine points off the likes of Vipers SC, KCCA FC and Express FC.
They beat Vipers 1-0 before drawing with both Express and KCCA.
Their last contest was the draw against KCCA in a game that they felt they should have won after creating the better chances in a reasonable fashion of domination.
Mbarara have also been in good form of late as they head into Saturday’s contest on a five-game unbeaten run (W2 D3). Their last defeat was on 13th March in a 1-0 home loss to Bright Stars.
The run of good results has seen them move to 11th on 22 points, three away from the relegation zone.
Against Villa, they take on a side that has also been in fairly good form.
The Jogoos have lost only once in their last six outings (W3 D2). The only loss in that period was in a 1-0 defeat to KCCA FC on match-day 18.
Villa have been average this campaign with the main issues being lack of consistency.
Starting the day in 6th, Villa have a chance to close in on 4th and 5th place as KCCA and Police who occupy those spots respectively sit just four points (34) above them.
This will be the 7th meeting between the two sides since September 2017.
Villa have been dominant in this fixture, winning four games and losing just once.
However, this fixture is yet to produce an away victory with all five previous win going to the home side.
Villa are currently on a three-game winning run against Mbarara City and will hope to continue in the same vain.
Villa won last season’s only meeting between the two sides 3-1 before beating Mbarara 3-0 wen they met in the first meeting this campaign.
