Preview – URA Out To Consolidate Top Spot

It has been an eventful last seven days in the Uganda Premier League as only one team in the top three has won on both match-day 19 and 20.

The victory belonged to 3rd-placed Express FC as they defeated Vipers SC who sit in second.

The leaders URA FC have drawn both of their two matches in that period, both 0-0 at SC Villa and Bright Stars.

The good news for the Tax Collectors is that the stalemate at Kavumba saw them take a one-point lead at the top of the table.

On Tuesday, they take on Mbarara City FC at the Arena of Visions knowing that victory will see them move temporarily four points clear at the top as Vipers will be in action on Wednesday.

The last few games have been headlined by the fact that Sam Simbwa’s side have failed to put away their chances.

Captain Shafiq Kagimu, Cromwel Rwothomio and club top scorer Steven Mukwala will all be looking to make that right against a Mbarara City side that must be oozing lots of confidence.

The Ankole Lions have enjoyed decent results against the top boys of late and are coming off a hard-fought victory at home to SC Villa.

Since Livingstone Mbabazi’s return to the club, they are yet to lose a game winning three and drawing as many in the six games he has been in charge.

Their last two away games have also seen them impress as they beat Wakiso Giants FC 2-1 before drawing at Express 0-0.

Coming up against a title-chasing URA side is a different match all together but considering the form that Mbarara is in at the moment, who says they can’t get a positive result on Tuesday?

Match Stats

This will be the 9th meeting between the two sides since December 2017.

Seven of the previous eight matches between the two sides have ended in draws with URA winning the other.

That victory was a 1-0 win for the Tax Collectors at the start of this month when the two sides collided in the return leg of their Uganda Cup round of 32 tie at Kakyeka.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two sides this season with two ending in draws and URA winning the other.

The reverse fixture, last season, ended in a 0-0 draw.
