*KCCA FC 0-2 Bright Stars

Bright Stars frustrated hosts KCCA FC to take a shocking 2-0 victory in a pulsating StarTimes Uganda Premier League game at Lugogo.

Sam Ssekamatte and substitute Joseph Akandanwaho scored a goal each in second half to hand coach Morley Byekwaso his second loss since replacing Mike Mutebi.

Bright Stars were resolute and deservedly took the lead from Ssekamatte’s well taken free-kick that eluded both defender Musa Ramathan and his goalkeeper Charles Lukwago.

They got the second from a good buildup after Akandanwaho collected from Marvin Joseph, strolled through KCCA defence before slotting past a helpless Lukwago.

KCCA were poor on the day, and will count themselves unlucky after hitting the woodwork twice in a game they controlled most of the phases.

Bright Stars, unbeaten in last six, have now won their four away league games in a row.

More Work To Do for Coach Morley

The loss has revealed more work to do for Coach Morley Byekwaso.

The decision to start Denis Iguma in the middle of the park did not pay off, as the veteran failed to match with the game’s tempo and lost possession on most of the occasion.

They conceded goals they could have avoided on the day as their three man defence, with Hassan Jurua playing on the right, struggled to break Bright Stars attacks and rarely communicated as expected with their goalkeeper.

They missed the midfield duo of Ashraf Mugume and Bright Anukani. With Keziron Kizito failing to create and he was were very slow going forward.

Charles Lwanga and Sadat Anaku didnt make their best moments count; with the later having a goal ruled out for offside in the second half while the former denied by the crossbar.

Lwanga also fired wide with a goal at his mercy after beating off resistance from Bright Stars defence.

The title talk is now all but over, as the side slips 10 points behind leaders URA FC.

Bright Stars Earn Their Revenge

Bright Stars returned to Lugogo for the first team since they were held to a one-all draw in May 2019.

Then, they left with a bitter taste after they had a goal wrongly disallowed – Ronald Ssempala had his header go through a torn net as linesman Hakim Mulindwa signalled for a goal kick.

In the first round this season, they came up strong in the second half but it was little too late as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat in the opener.

On Thursday, they were determined despite having a slow start as they game KCCA too much space for them to run into.

They slowly grew into the game, played with confidence, determination amd utilised their chances.

Marvin Joseph could have given the visitors an early lead but saw his shot rattle the crossbar.

And they stayed in the game thanks to a strong showing from goalkeeper Simon Tamale who made strong saves on the day.

Tamale finger-tipped Steven Sserwadda freekick and in the second half made an admirable one-hand save to push out another freekick from Anaku.

The introduction of Joseph Janjali and Akandanwaho off the bench gave Bright Stars an edge as the duo caused KCCA all sorts of danger.

With the score 1-0 in favour of the visitors, Bright Stars missed a chance to double the lead when Ssekamate was selfish not to pass to an unmarked Janjali, as he went for power and consequently his shot was saved by Lukwago.

Janjali was later denied, after cutting from inside, he forced Lukwago into a low save.

Bright Stars move to sixth, with 33 points after 21 games.
