Uganda Drawn Alongside Hosts As AFCON Beach Soccer Groups Are Revealed

The Uganda National Men’s Beach Soccer team, the Sand Cranes have been drawn in group A of the 2021 AFCON Beach Soccer finals.

The groups were drawn in Egypt on Wednesday, April 29 ahead of the tournament that start on May 23rd and ends on the 29th of the same month in Senegal.

The hosts Senegal, East African neighbours Tanzania and DR Congo are the other nations in Group A with whom Uganda will tussle it out for a place in the knock out stages.

Uganda will face Tanzania first, then Senegal before ending the group stage with a clash against DR Congo.

The exact dates for the fixtures are yet to be announced.

Speaking after the draw, Sand Cranes head coach Salim Jamal Muwonge stressed that his players will be ready for the tournament before appreciating that the group is ‘tough’.

“My players will be ready for the tournament. Muwonge said.

“We have a tough draw but we know how we shall handle the matches.

“Senegal is very tough playing at home. Tanzania are our neighbours and we have played them many times. Congo (DRC) is new to us and we know little about them.

Uganda sealed a spot at the finals tournament for the first time ever, without breaking any sweat after Ghana who were supposed to be their opposition in the final qualifying hurdle decided to withdraw.

The other group has Egypt, Mozambique, pre-tournament favourites Morocco and Seychelles.
