We Need To Change Our Character If We Are To Win Any Silverware – Byekwaso

KCCA FC interim manager Morely Buekwaso insists his players need to change their character if the club is to win any silverware this season.

He made the comments after his side lost 2-0 to Bright Stars on Wednesday in a Uganda Premier League game.

Conceding second half goals to Joseph Akandwanaho and Samuel Kayongo Ssekamatte meant that KCCA have now lost six games this season.

Speaking to the media, Byekwaso placed the blame for the loss to lack of effectiveness.

“The team that played first half played well, they pressed because we knew Bright stars were going to be compact as usual but we lacked that effectiveness in finishing and it really cost us losing the game. Byekwaso said.

Since stepping in as head coach on interim basis, Byekwaso has constantly played Dennis Iguma in the holding midfield says he (Iguma) played well as he tried to supply the forwards and also give defensive cover to the back line and only blames the forwards who weren’t clinical.

“For me, Iguma played well though he lost a few balls.

“He was doing all the donkey work to serve the offensive players going forward.

“Jurua (Hassan) also played his role and although we lost this game, i can’t blame those two.

“I only blame the forwards who weren’t clinical enough.”

Byekwaso also went further to admit his players need to change in their character if they are to win any trophy.

“Its a tough result and we are playing Maroons FC next in the Uganda cup, a team that has always disturbed us.

“If we are to win any trophy this season we need to change our character because we have players whose character is very low.

“The mentality and fighting spirit is really down so if we are to win anything this season we need to change the approach and character of some players.”

On winning the league title, Byekwaso still has hope KCCA can do it.

“The league is a marathon. We’ve lost against Bright Stars and if the others also lose, we still have that confidence to come back and win it because we still have many games to play.

“If we changed our character and approach I believe we shall make still make it.”

KCCA FC are currently 4th on table with 37points after 21league games played

KCCA FC host rivals Vipers FC in their next league fixture after playing a double header against Maroons in the cup with the first game coming on 1st May.
