Vipers Overcome UPDF In Uganda Cup Round Of 16 First Leg

Saturday 1st May
UPDF 1-3 Vipers

An own goal by Vuni Joseph and two others from Ibrahim Orit and substitute Caesar Manzoki gave Vipers SC a 3-1 first leg advantage over UPDF FC on Saturday.

Brian Kayanja had given the hosts an early lead to set the tone for a fine game of football.

The hosts broke the deadlock through Kayanja’s fine header at the far post from a well taken free kick by ZZinda Hussein in the 11th minute.

After falling behind, the Venoms pressed for an instant leveller but could not break down UPDF’ defence.

Yunus Sentamu could have levelled matters after miscommunication between goalkeeper Kibowa Eric and defender Bernard Muwanga but his lob went over.

UPDF headed into the break with the slender one-goal advantage.

Five minutes into the second half, Sentamu tested Kibowa but his shot went straight into the goalkeeper’s gloves.

Disan Galiwango wiped in a fierce free kick but once again, Kibowa was equal to the task as he collected easily.

In the 64th minutes, Vipers levelled the matters after an own goal by Vuni who turned into his own net off Bobosi Byaruhanga’s corner.

Five minutes later, Orit gave the Venoms the lead heading in from Galiwango’s free kick.

Moments before the final whistle, Manzoki dived to head in the third off Abraham Ndugwa’s cross.

Both sides will be locking horns again in the second leg at St Mary’s stadium Kitende on Tuesday.
