Proline FC 2-1 Mbale Heroes
Mtn Omondi Stadium, Lugogo
May 2nd/ 2021
Proline FC held on to earn a hard fought 2-1 victory over Mbale Heroes in their first leg of the Uganda Cup round of 16 clash at the Omondi Stadium in lugogo.
Captain Noordin Bunjo and defender Savio Kabugo were both on target for the Anthony Bongole coached side.
Skipper Karenzi Buchohera scored the only goal for the Visitors, in the second half.
The visitors looked a more composed side, denying Proline the chance to find their rhythm.
Brian Umony’s shot was well collected by goalkeeper Bashir Ibrahim as the hosts started to grow into the game.
As they pinned Mbale in their own half, Proline were awarded a penalty in the 39th minute after Mato Rodgers was fouled in the forbidden area by Lumbangakene Geoffrey.
From the resultant kick, Bunjo took responsibility sending the keeper the wrong side to give the home side the lead.
A few minutes later, Kabugo doubled the lead scoring from a tight angel after collecting from Gerald Kirya’s well delivered free kick.
At the second half resumption, it was the visitors in ascendancy, having most of the possession as they pushed for an away goal.
At the hour mark, Ibrahim Kibumba’s effort from a free kick hit the cross bar before substitute Okori Luka missed a one-on-one with Proline goalkeeper Magola Shatif.
With 12 minutes left on the clock, Karenzi headed home off a well crafted cross from Kibumba.
Forward Mato had a chance to make it three for the home side but his effort went wide after Bunjo sent him through on goal.
Ahead of the second leg, Proline will need to avoid defeat so as to progress to the next round.
Mbale will hosts Proline in the return leg on Wednesday 6th May, at the Mbale Municipal Stadium.
Proline are still the defending champions having won the 2018/19 championship when they beat Bright Stars FC in shootouts in a final held at Masaka Recreation Grounds.
