Women Super League: Nassuna Vows To Fight As UCU Eye Final

UCU Lady Cardinals Striker Hassifa Nassuna has expressed readiness ahead of the semifinals of the FUFA Women Super League.

UCU Lady Cardinals who topped Group B will face Group A runners up Uganda Martyrs Rubaga in the second semi at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

Nassuna scored three goals, including a brace against Isra Soccer Academy as UCU led Group B with nine points.

They won three of four games, with their only loss coming against Lady Doves in a game they took an early lead through Nassuna’s penalty.

They were made to dig deep to reach the playoffs, needing a Shadia Nankya freekick to overcome Olila High in the final group game.

“The coaches have prepared us very well, we are very ready for the semifinal game,” said Nassuna.

“We have got enough rest. We know its not going to be easy, its going to be tough but we are going to fight until the last minute.”

Did You Know? In 2018/19, Nassuna was the MVP and top scorer with 14 goals as UCU Lady Cardinals won their only league title. Then, the league was called Women Elite League, the Mukono side beat Lady Doves 2-0 with Nassuna and Maureen Kinavudori on target in the final played at Lugogo.

Gloria Namugerwa, the captain of Uganda Martyrs, is hoping that her side have done enough work to reach the stop UCU.

She briefly commented: “We have tried to improve in all departments especially in the striking line. We are hopeful to reach the final.”

In the first semifinal of the day, Juliet Nalukenge’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies face Fazillah Ikwaput’s Lady Doves in what promises to be a closely contested affair.
