Bright Stars Duo Nominated For UPL April Awards

Bright Stars duo of striker Samuel Kayongo Ssekamate and head coach Baker Mbowa have been nominated in the Uganda Premier League awards for the month of April.

Kayongo will tussle it out with Police FC forward Ben Ocen for the player of the month while Mbowa is up against Vipers’ tactician Fred Kajoba for the right to be named coach of the month.

It comes as no surprise that the two have been nominated for the awards as the Kavumba based side was in good form in April.

In the six games they played, the Kavumba based side won five and drawn the other.

They went on to score an impressive total of 13 goals and conceded just four.

That run of results has seen them climb into 6th on the table with 33 points from 21 games.

Looking at the individuals, Ssekamate was also brilliant in that run as he notched up six goals in as many games.

He scored twice against Kitara and once each against Wakiso Giants, Express FC and MYDA FC.

Ssekamate’s competition for the gong, Ocen, has also had a good month of April.

The forward who struggled with injury at the start of the season scored five goals in the past month.

For Mbowa his competition in Kajoba, led Vipers to four victories, a draw and loss in April.
