Preview: Defending Champions Face Stern Test

Proline FC will seek to defend their slim advantage when they visit Mbale Heroes at Municipal Stadium with a place at the Quarterfinals of the Uganda Cup at stake.

Proline won the first leg 2-1 thanks to a goal each from Nordin Bunjo and Savio Kabugo but Karenzi Jamaldine Bucho strike in the 78th minute gave Mbale a lifeline.

Its a huge task for Proline who will need to avoid defeat to reach the last eight. They are the defending champions having won the title in the 2018/19 season after last edition (2019/20) was called off due to Covid19.

At round of 32, Proline who had won comfortably 4-1 at home, almost bundled out when they lost 3-1 against MYDA in the return leg for a side that fluffed a late penalty through Paul Musamali.

Mbale Heroes on the other hand, lost 1-0 to Gaddafi in the round of 32 first leg but leveled the deficit with the same scoreline at Municipal Stadium with Musa Malunda goal and later won in shootouts.

They will have to do it without fans this time following disciplinary proceedings opened at the club by FUFA after violation of Covid19 protocols in that game against Gaddafi.

Mbale Heroes, who also beat Kataka FC 2-1 in Mbale Derby in Big League, will fancy their chances to book a place in quarterfinals under coach Hussein Kheri.

Vipers, Express, SC Villa, Wakiso Giants, KCCA, Police, are already in the last eight.
