Preview – Police Out To Dent Express Hopes Title Hopes
Express look to have returned to their best and will be hoping they can win all three points on Saturday to maintain their title charge.
The Red Eagles have won both of their last two league games, defeating Vipers SC away from home and then Onduparaka at Wankulukuku.
They also took care of league leaders URA FC in the cup to reach the last 8 and will bank on the momentum as they try to once again move to with four points of the Tax Collectors who beat Onduparaka FC 3-1 on Friday to move further atop the log.
“We shifted our focus back to the league immediately after we advanced to the cup quarters. Noted Express FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa ahead of the game.
“We respect Police because they are a decent side with a good coach. The target remains winning our home games to keep in reach with the table leaders.”
The Red Eagles have been close to formidable at home this season as they are the only side yet to lose a contest in their own backyard, winning six and drawing the other four of the 10 games at Wankulukuku.
Much of that good run has been down to the front four of Martin Kizza, Godfrey Lwesibawa Charles Musiige and Eric Kambale who have caused issues for every visitor and they will be the ones banked on to take care of a Police side that is not easy to beat.
Just like Express, Police too come into the game on their back of progressing to the Uganda Cup last 8.
The Cops eliminated Bright Stars 4-2 on aggregate and will be hoping to use that momentum to pull off a decent result away to the Red Eagles.
However, their last League game was a 3-1 loss to Wakiso Giants in a game that was highlighted by controversy and two-Cops goals disallowed.
On the other hand Police FC come into the game with a upper hand after a 6-1 victory against MYDA FC in their previous league outing.
Forward Ben Ochen will be the man looked at to lift the cops again having netted four-league goals in his previous three outings.
This will be the 23nd meeting between the two sides since October 2010.
In the past 22 meetings, Express have won 10, Police six with the other six all ending in draws.
The last seven meetings have seen Express win four times and Police three.
Last season, each of the two sides won their respective home fixture with Police humiliating Express 6-1 at Lugogo.
Express edged Police 1-0 at Lugogo when the two sides met earlier this campaign with Eric Kambale scoring a late goal to ensure three points for the Red Eagles.
