Assistant referee Jane Mutonyi has been banned for one month after she was deemed to have lacked concentration while making a decision that led to disallowing of a goal.
The incident happened on April 28, during a Uganda Premier League game between Wakiso Giants FC and Police FC.
Mutonyi is understood to have signalled that the ball hand gone out of bounds before Herman Waswa scored what would have been Police’s second goal in the 3-1 loss to Wakiso at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
She went ahead and advised centre referee George Nkurunziza to disallow the goal.
“Disciplinary proceedings were opened against Mutonyi Jane the assistant referee on the UPL match between Wakiso Giants Vs Police played on 28th April 2021 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium Wakiso following her advice to the Referee Nkurunziza George to cancel a goal scored by Police FC in the 84th minute of the game.” Read part of the document signed by the Chairman Referee Disciplinary Panel Ali Tomusange.
According to the FUFA Referee Disciplinary Panel, Mutonyi who is bound by the rules that govern referees at the Federation, made a decision that affected the results of the match and thus the ban.
The one month suspension from football Officiating takes effect on May 7th 2021.
