Villa, Bright Stars Fire Blanks On Wet Afternoon At Bombo

Saturday 8th May
SC Villa 0-0 Bright Stars

SC Villa and Bright Stars played out a goalless draw at a waterlogged and muddy Bombo Military Barracks stadium on Saturday.

The game which was delayed for 30 minutes before kick-off, was balanced but with both sides struggling to maintain possession due to the state of the pitch.

The chances that both sides created could not be converted.

Isaac Ogwang’s free kick from just-outside the box was pushed away by Bright Stars goalkeeper Tamale Simon, in the opening exchanges.

At the other end, Andrew Kagwa forced a decent save from Meddie Kibirige off a long range strike.

Andy Kyambadde saw a free-kick head wide as the visitors pressed for the opener before Joseph Akandwanaho’s goal bound effort, after rounding Kibirige, was cleared off the line by Emmanuel Wasswa.

Villa had the better chances but Ronald Sekiganda shot straight at Tamale and Kyambadde headed away Derrick Ndahiro’s corner which was headed for the back of the net.

The best chance of the afternoon fell to Ronald Olaki whose effort was expertly tipped over by Tamale.

Deep into stoppage time, a goal mouth scramble in the Bright Stars area resulted into two goal-line clearances as the ball somehow failed to find the back of the net.

In the end, the two sides could not be separated and Tamale was chosen as the man-of-the-match.

What next for both sides

Both teams will return to action in the Uganda Premier League on Tuesday 11th May with SC Villa away to Onduparaka FC while Soltillo Bright Stars are at home to Mbarara City.
