Preview – KCCA, Vipers Renew Acquaintance At Lugogo
The two best sides in Ugandan football for the last few years meet once again on Sunday.
Vipers who came into the season as favourites will be looking to close the gap on leaders URA FC.
The Venoms start the day four points behind the Tax Collectors following their (URA) match-day 22 victory over Onduparaka FC on Friday.
With third placed Express also hot on their heels, Fred Kajoba’s side can not afford dropping points at this stage.
Fred Kajoba’s side have found the going a bit hard of late, in the league as they have won only one of their past three games, losing one and drawing the other.
But that should not be a big concern as they are facing a depleted-of-sorts KCCA side without several first team players.
The duo of Ceaser Manzoki and Yunus Ssentamu has bailed Vipers out on several occasions this campaign and they will hope the two do the same at Lugogo on Sunday.
The Kasasiro Boys are also out for victory after falling far off the top three.
After URA’s victory on Friday, KCCA are now 13 points off top spot and nine behind third-placed Express.
They are most likely not going to win the league but the Kasasiro Boys will very much want to finish with a respectable tally at the end of the campaign.
Their biggest worry going into the game will be the long list of absentees and they will need Sadat Anaku, who has been in good scoring form since returning from injury, to have a good game on Sunday.
It is a game that KCCA will very much want to win as they seek to avoid losing twice to Vipers for the second time in history.
This will be the 23nd meeting between the two sides since September 2010.
In the past 21 meetings, Vipers have the upper hand with nine victories, KCCA have six while the other seven games have all ended in draws.
KCCA come into the contest having lost only one of their last six games against Vipers, winning two and drawing the other three.
Last season, KCCA took five points off Vipers including one in a 0-0 draw at Kitende.
Vipers defeated KCCA 1-0 when the two sides met earlier in the season.
