KCCA FC 1-2 Vipers SC
Yunus Ssentamu and Milton Karisa were both on target as Vipers defeated KCCA FC 2-1 in a Uganda Premier League played at the Omondi Stadium on Sunday.
Midfielder Dennis Iguma scored the consolation for KCCA FC on a day that they were outplayed on their own patch.
Teenager Richard Basanga nearly handed Vipers an early lead off a Bobosi Byaruhanga’s free kick only to be denied by goalkeeper Charles Lukwago.
Bobosi then somehow missed from a tap in after Lukwago had been beaten by Ssentamu’s clever touch.
KCCA struggled to get going in the contest and Ramathan Musa’s miss from a header was as close as they got to scoring in the opening period.
Five minutes into the second half, Ssentamu opened the scoring with his 13th of the season, feeding off Aziz Kayondo’s brilliant run.
Barely a minute later, Karisa doubled Vipers lead after he was set up by Basangwa.
In the 65th minutes, Iguma pulled a goal back for the host as he reacted quickest to poke home from a rebound after Julius Poloto’s initial effort was dealt with.
The hosts tried to mount a late charge to salvage a point but Vipers stood firm to ensure victory.
The result means KCCA have now lost seven games this season and they stay in 4th with 37 points.
After match day 22, Vipers remain second on the table with 49 points, just one point adrift of table leaders URA.
In their next fixtures, KCCA FC play away to Police FC in the Lugogo derby while Vipers host URA.
