The two most successful clubs in Uganda Cup history will meet in the quarter finals of this year’s competition.
KCCA FC and Express FC who have won a record 10 Uganda Cups, apiece, were drawn together as one of the four match-ups in the last 8 of the competition on Tuesday, May 11 at FUFA House in Mengo.
This is a repeat of the 2016/17 semi finals that saw KCCA triumph on their way to winning the final against Paidha Black Angels FC.
Express will feel confident heading into the tie as they have been the better side this season, so far.
The Wankulukuku based outfit are currently third on the Uganda Premier League (UPL) table, four points behind leaders URA FC and with eight games to play, they are very much still in the hunt for the title.
In the Cup, they have already eliminated two UPL sides in Kyetume FC and URA FC, taking care of the Tax Collectors 2-1 on aggregate in the last 16.
For KCCA who are 4th in the league, they have had to deal with two Big League sides in Nyamityobora FC and Maroons FC, humbling the later 5-0 on aggregate in the last round.
The other interesting match-up in the last eight sees nine-time winners SC Villa face-off with UPL defending champions Vipers SC.
This is a repeat of the 2017/18 semi final where Vipers progressed 1-0 on aggregate before losing the final to KCCA FC.
To reach this stage, Villa have eliminated Ndejje University and Onduparaka FC in the round of 32 and 16 respectively.
Vipers who are looking for just their second Cup crown have had to ease past two UPL sides to reach the last 8.
They took care of Busoga United in the last 32 before cruising past UPDF at the round of 16.
The other two quarter final fixtures will see Police FC take on Wakiso Giants FC while Proline will face the winner of the round of 16 tie between BUL FC and Kigezi Home Boyz that is yet to be completed as the second leg has not been played yet. BUL won the first leg at Bugembe 2-1 and are favourites to get the job done.
The 8 teams that will feature in the quarter finals will all bag 6m for reaching this stage.
The winner of this year’s Uganda Cup, at the final to be played in Masindi, will bank Sh50m.
It should be noted that this year’s Cup is competed for by only UPL and Big League clubs. The tourney is being played on a home and away basis until the final.
