Bright Stars 3-1 Mbarara City
Forward Samuel Kayongo Ssekamate scored a brace as Bright Star beat Mbarara City FC 3-1 in a Uganda premier league game played at Kavumba on Tuesday.
Derrick Ngobi scored the other goal for Bright Stars on the afternoon as Baker Mbowa’s side completed their first-ever League double over the Ankole Lions.
Striker Bashir Mutanda who has been in and out of the team, scored the only goal for the visitors who are now winless in their three last league outings.
The hosts kicked off the game with intent only for Ssekamate’s Volley to sail over the bar inside 10 minutes.
However, Ssekamate would not be denied twice as he handed Bright Stars the lead on 23 minutes, heading in Andrew Kaggwa’s cross.
Three minutes later, Bashir Mutanda leveled for the visitors as his low shot from just inside the area crept past Simon Tamale in the Bright Stars goal.
Moments later, Ssekamate completed his brace with his 12th goal of the season, side-footing Kagwa’s cross past Muhammad Ssekeba.
After the break, Ngobi doubled the hosts advantage as he pounced onto a rebound after Ssekamate’s free kick had bounced off the upright.
The result sees Bright Stars stay sixth on the league table with 37 points, level with KCCA FC and Police FC who sit 4th and 5th respectively.
Mbarara City FC remains in 11th with 26 points from 23 games.
In their next league games, Bright stars play away to BUL FC while Mbarara City host Onduparaka FC.
