Preview – Express In Must Win Situation

Express FC will be desperate to register three vital points when they take on Kyetume FC in Nakisunga on Wednesday.

The Red Eagles are on the hunt for a first league crown since 2012 and find themselves just four points adrift of leaders URA FC.

With the Tax Collectors travelling away to second placed Vipers on the same day, Wasswa Bbosa’s side know it is a glorious chance to close in on the top two spots as either URA, Vipers or both of them will drop points on match-day 23.

The Red Eagles come into the contest oozing with confidence after winning all of their last three league encounters.

They have defeated Vipers away from home and then Onduparaka FC and Police FC at Wankulukuku.

They also took care of league leaders URA FC in the cup to reach the last 8 and will bank on the momentum away to a Kyetume side that they eliminated at the round of 32, in the cup.

“Our preparations have been great ahead of Tomorrow’s (Wednesday) game. We know Kyetume is a stubborn side especially at home but we have one mission and that is to win. The only way we can keep the pressure on the title chase is to win games and that is the mentality the boys have so we pray we execute our plan on match-day.” Said Express head coach Wasswa Bbosa ahead of the game.

The Red Eagles have been close in brilliant form of late and will hope to continue in similar fashion.

Much of that good run has been down to the front four of Martin Kizza, Godfrey Lwesibawa Charles Musiige and Eric Kambale who have caused issues for every team and they will be the ones banked on to take care of a Kyetume side that has struggled since the season started.

Kyetume will start the day in 14th place and with relegation starting to sound like a likely outcome this campaign.

After two back to back victories at the end of April, the Slaughters got believing again but then the troubles started gain.

They lost 4-2 at bottom side Kitara and in the aftermath, two of their starters were suspended by the club over unprofessional conduct.

Their last game was a sorry draw at second from bottom MYDA FC.

Those two games saw them drop five winnable points and they will be kicking their feet over a golden opportunity lost.

Sitting five points adrift of safety, the Slaughters must play each of the remaining 8 games like a final starting with the match against Express, if they are to stand any chance of staying in the top tier.

Match stats

This will be the 5th competitive meeting between the two sides since 2019.

Express have never lost to Kyetume as they have gone on to win twice and drawn as many games in their four match-ups so far.

Last season, Express beat Kyetume 1-0 away from home before the second game was cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

These two sides have already met three times this season, two in the cup and one in the league.

The league game at Wankulukuku ended 0-0 before Express eliminated Kyetume from the cup 3-2 on aggregate.
