URA FC maintained top spot in the Uganda Premier League thanks to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Police FC on Saturday.

Steven Mukwala, Joackim Ojera and Cromwel Rwothomio were all on target for the Tax Collectors on the day while substitute Fahad Kizito scored the visitors’ consolation.

URA who are chasing a first league crown since 2011 started the brighter of the two sides but were struggling to curb open the Police back-line.

Last season’s UPL top scorer Steven Mukwala eventually found a way through the Cops defence, volleying in the opener on 30 minutes after collecting from Arafat Galiwaango.

Police looked to be growing into the contest but could not find a leveller as they went into the break trailing by the odd goal.

Their hopes of getting back in the game were extinguished two minutes into the second half as Ojera poked home from close range after he was set up by Mukwala.

Two became three on the hour mark when Rwothomio twisted and turned in the area after pouncing onto a lose ball to slot past Tom Ikara in the Cops’ goal.

With eight minutes to play, Kizito pounced onto a defensive laps to score Police’s consolation goal.

The victory which is URA’s 16th for the season, takes them to 54 points, one ahead of second-placed Vipers SC who defeated SC Villa 3-1 on the same day.

For Police, they drop to 6th on the log with 38 points from 24 games.

In their next fixtures, URA are away to Kyetume FC on Wednesday while Police host SC Villa on the same day.
