Rines all but stormed into this year’s FUFA Women Elite League after a hard fought win over Bunyaruguru on matchday two of Group B at Njeru.

Peace Aloyo scored in the 70th minute to ensure Rines go top with six points after two games.

Aloyo’s goal was a beauty; her long range free-kick sailed over to elude Bunyaruguru’s goalkeeper Namaganda.

“I commend my players for once again following the instructions, they remained in character despite being at the receiving end for most parts of the game,” said Rines coach Bright Nyanzi.

“It was a tough game, we came with the strategy of building a goal from the back but it failed but am happy that we had plan B and it worked. We were good in defence but we must work on our forwards so that they can bury chances.”

Bunyaruguru finished the game a player down after Patience Kemimuri was sent off for a second bookable offence with five minutes remaining on normal time.

Rines will have their goalkeeper Elsie Najjemba to thank after she denied Norah Alupo a chance to open the score sheet early into the game.

Its two wins from as many games for Rines who beat Town View 3-1 on Saturday thanks to goals from Shakirah Nalule, Yuster Kayesu and Anita Nantume.

Monday is a rest day for the group before the four teams clash on Tuesday for the last games. Rines face Kataka while Bunyaruguru and Town View will lock horns in the other tie.
