Lwesibawa Hat-trick Sends Express Top

Tuesday, May 18
*Vipers 2-3 Mbarara City
*Busoga United 0-4 Express
*Onduparaka 0-0 Bright Stars
*Wakiso Giants 2-1 BUL
*Kitara 3-1 MYDA

Godfrey Lwesibawa scored a hat-trick as Express FC thumped Busoga United 4-0 in Njeru on Tuesday to storm the summit of Uganda Premier League.

The forward who has been criticised for not being clinical enough scored twice in the first half and once in the second while Eric Kambale scored the 4th on the day.

Knowing that victory coupled with Vipers’ inability to win in their game against Mbarara City on the same day, would take them top, Express wasted no time as they pressed for a goal from the early exchanges.

They were rewarded on 20 minutes as Lwesibawa bundled in from close range after Martin Kizza’s initial effort rattled the cross bar.

Lwesibawa soon made it 2-0 with a ferocious strike from inside the area after he was set up by Kizza.

Seven minutes into the second half, the former Tooro United forward completed his hat trick, slotting in after he was teed up by Charles Musiige.

Eric Kambale who has been Express’ best player this season added the fourth on 65 minutes for his 13th of the season.

The victory takes Express to 55 points, one ahead of URA who face Kyetume away from home on Wednesday and two above third-placed Vipers who lost 3-1 to Mbarara City on match-day 25.
