Amuria High School got off to a perfect start to the FUFA Women Elite League as they overcame Ajax Queens in their opening game of the FUFA Elite League on Thursday.
On a day where both sides put up spirited performances, it needed Amuria who outscored their opponents 3-2 in a thrilling contest.
Captain Emmauela Akoel scored what would prove to be the winner with two minutes to go.
Akoel had also netted earlier in the contest to earn herself a deserved brace.
Rehemah Akurut scored the other goal for Amuria on the day.
Annet Namwenge and Moureen Nangozi netted the two Ajax Queens’ goals.
After missing on several occasions Akurut broke the deadlock at the stroke of half time, with a cool finish past goal keep Nanyondo Pamela to hand Amuria a slender lead going into halftime.
With two minutes played at the second half, Akoel doubled Amuria’s lead moments before Namwenge netted from a well taken free kick to pull one back for the Queens.
Three minutes past the hour mark, Nangozi levelled matters and in process, set up a tense finale.
Akoel who had been brilliant all afternoon, struck the winner for her side with two minutes left.
Victory sees Amuria earn their first win of the campaign while Ajax open their account on a loosing note.
The two teams will return to action on Friday with Ajax Queens taking on Vision WFC while Amuria High School will play St. Peters.
