Preview – Red Eagles Out To Fly Further Ahead Of Chasing Pack
Express FC will be hoping to consolidate top spot when they take on Kitara FC at Wankulukuku on Friday.
After both URA FC and Vipers SC lost their respective match-day 24 fixtures, the Red Eagles moved top of the pile thanks to a 4-0 win over Busoga United FC.
Sitting currently on 55 points, they are just a point above second placed URA and two ahead of Vipers with five games to play.
The Red Eagles have been in scintillating form of late and will be hot favourites to take all three points.
Wasswa Bbosa’s side has won all of their last six games and are coming off a 4-0 humbling away to Busoga.
On Friday, they return to a venue where they are yet to lose a game this campaign.
They have played 12 home games so far this season, winning eight and drawn just four. They are the only side yet to lose at home this season.
That has been possible because they have been impressive at both ends of the field this season.
The Red Eagles have conceded the least goals (13) so far and scored the fourth most (40) this campaign.
Defensively, the trio of Isa Lumu, Murushid Juuko and captain Enock Walusimbi has been the pillar of arguably the best back-line in the league for a while.
Upfront, the front four of Martin Kizza, Godfrey Lwesibawa, Eric Kambale and Charles Musiige has caused havoc for opposition defences all season and will ask the Kitara back-line questions throughout the 90 minutes on Friday.
Express will go into the contest as hot favourites to take all three points unless, Kitara pulls off what would be the most shocking result of the campaign so far.
The Masindi based side have been the poorest this season and sit bottom of the log.
They have just 14 points all season and with only five games to play, they look destined for an instant return to the Big League.
Currently 12 points adrift of safety, Kitara need a miracle to pull of a great escape.
Going into Friday’s game, they must be sort of motivated after defeating MYDA FC 3-0 in their last game.
This will be the third ever meeting between the two sides.
Each has won one of the past two meetings with Kitara winning in the cup while Express won in the league.
The Red Eagles beat Kitara 1-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season thanks to Frank Kalanda’s penalty.
