Kyetume Football Club defender Latif Kiyemba says his side’s main concern is staying in the Uganda Premier league.
The defender struck the all important goal in the 1-0 win over URA FC, at the start of the week, one that revived Kyetume’s hopes of surviving relegation at the end of the season.
Kiyemba’s goal was the first he has scored for the club and it came at a time when they needed it the most.
Victory saw the Slaughters move to 23, points after 25 games and now sit just three points from safety.
Speaking to the Sports Nation on Friday, Kiyemba was quick to express his delight for helping his side secure victory over URA.
“I’m happy that I helped my side and most importantly revived hopes of surviving relegation. Kiyemba noted.
“I’m happy together with my teammates as everyone is trying to help out.
Kyetume needs to start winning consistently and pray that the sides above them drop points along the way.
Despite failing on finishing in top four as per their targets at the start of the season, Kiyemba added that their concern is staying in the top flight.
“We had set targets as a team to finish in the top four but that didn’t happen and now we shall fight till the end to lift our side back. Our major concern now is staying in the league.”
Like any other player with ambitions, Kiyemba dreams of great heights and most importantly putting on the national team colours one day.
“I’m a hard working person and ready to take on any challenge ahead of me as I also build my career.
“Most importantly, i dream of playing for the national team one day plus and playing professional football.”
With his defensive abilities, good at set pieces as well, Kiyemba will be vital in Kyetume’s bid to fend off the drop.
Next for Kyetume is a trip to Bombo to they face SC Villa on match day 26, in one of their remaining five games.
