The Uganda National Men’s Beach Soccer team, the Sand Cranes’ assistant coach Bashir Mutyaba says they are hoping Tanzania loses to Senegal so that they qualify for the last eight.
He made those remarks after the Sand Cranes defeated Tanzania 3-4 in their second game of the finals.
The victory was Uganda’s first at the finals after losing 5-1 to Senegal in the first game on Sunday.
Speaking after the game, Mutyaba thanks God for the victory despite the limited time for resting.
“We thank God for today’s win. Mutyaba said.
“We played a team that was fresh. We had a game yesterday (Sunday) against Senegal so the players were a bit fatigued.”
After Monday’s victory, Uganda will be hoping Senegal can defeat Tanzania so as to reach the last four of the competition.
Victory for Tanzania on Tuesday will see the Sand Cranes eliminated from the competition.
“We thank God that we were able to improve on our mistakes and avoided them as well as capitalize on our strength that we had in the Senegal game.
“This has helped us to win today’s game against Tanzania.”
“We pray that Senegal beats Tanzania so that we get an opportunity to qualify to the semi finals.”
The game against Tanzania was Uganda’s last in the groups after DR Congo, their would-be, other opposition withdrew from the tournament.
