FUFA Women Elite League:
Group D – Match Day 2
Wednesday, May 26th
FUFA Technical Centre Njeru
-Ehcos WFC 1-1 Lango Queens FC
-She Maroons 2-1 Wakiso Hills WFC
She Maroons became the first team from Group D to progress to the knock out stage of this year’s FUFA Women Elite league after their 2-1 victory against Wakiso Hills on Wednesday.
This was their second successive victory, taking them to six points after they also took care of Echos WFC in their opener.
Despite winning on the day, the Prison Warders were made to earn the victory as they rallied from a goal down to overcome the Antelopes.
They needed Second half goals from Winnie Kyomugisha, who scored a brace in the game to see them seal a place to the next stage.
Farida Nanyonjo had earlier put Wakiso Hills in the lead just before halftime.
With limited chances created by both teams in the opening exchanges, Nanyonjo’s strike from a free kick on 43 minutes was the difference between the two sides at halftime.
With five minutes played in the second, Kyomugisha who came off the bench levelled matters for her side.
She later completed her brace, three minutes past the hour mark, scoring from the spot to ensure her side bagged another three points on the day.
Victory means that The Prison Warders progress to the knock out stage of the competition with six points.
For Wakiso Hills, they have collected just one point out of the possible six.
After a rest day on Thursday, both teams return to action on Friday in their last group games with She Maroons up against Lango Queens while Wakiso Hills WFC face Echos WFC.
