Final: Senegal Vs Mozambique – 8:30pm
Uganda’s Beach Soccer national team, the Sand Cranes, have missed out on a ticket to World Cup.
The Cranes lost 6-3 to Mozambique in the semis of the 2021 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations at Sally in Senegal.
With finalists qualifying to World Cup in Russia, the tie was one all after the first period and led 3-2 going into the last 12 minutes.
However, late lapses in concentration saw Mozambique breach the Cranes defence to beat Meddie Kibirige in goal down the stretch and storm the finals.
Alex Emmanuel Wasswa, Baker Lukoya and Paul Lule scored the three goals for the Cranes.
“I commend the players and technical team, I am sure we have not ashamed our nation,” said coach Salim Muwonge.
“We have lost the game but picked many positives from this tournament and we hope to improve going forward.”
Rachide Sefo scored five goals while Nelson Manuel was on target as well for Mozambique who are playing at the tourney for the first time.
Elsewhere, hosts and defending champions Senegal beat Morocco in the first semi to qualify to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, Russia 2021.
Uganda face Morocco in the game to determine the third placed team on Saturday.
