Uganda Sand Cranes head coach Salim Muwonge says they have picked up some positives from the AFCON Beach soccer in Senegal in their debut appearance.
The gaffer also assured that together with his technical team, they will back home, organize well so as to get the solutions to all that went wrong.
Muwonge made the remarks after Uganda lost 6-3 to Mozambique in the semi final of the 2021 AFCON Beach Soccer tournament in Saly, Senegal.
Rachid Chefo So scored five and Nelson Manuel netted the other for Mozambique while Wasswa Emmanuel Alex, Lukooya Baker and Lule paul helped themselves to a goal each for the Sand Cranes.
After the game, Muwonge did not hesitate to thank his technical team and players for the work done.
“I would like to thank my technical teama and the players. We all tried our level best. This was a game of world cup qualification but unfortunately we fell short.
“We came into the tournament as underdogs but by the time we played all the games we did, we were not undermined anymore.”
Though they lost two games, Muwonge says that they have picked some positives and they will iron out their mistakes.
“We lost some games but we have learnt something positive in the tournament. “We shall go back and organize well with my technical team so that we can solve our mistakes.”
Despite this being Uganda’s maiden appearance at the continental tournament, Muwonge was optimistic about his side qualifying for the World Cup.
“We had high hopes for qualifying for the world cup. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it because it was a game that would help ensure we qualify.”
Uganda’s only hope for a medal is a win against Morocco in the third place play-off match on Saturday.
The finals and third place playoffs will be played on Saturday 29th May.
Hosts Senegal will play Mozambique in the final.
