Basketball – Hope Akello (JKL Lady Dolphins), Samuel Ajak (Ndejje Angels) and Faisal Aden (KIU Titans)

Athletics – Joshua Cheptegei, Prisca Chesang and Jacob Kiplimo


Fortebet Real Stars Sports Awards return with four categories as the organisers continue to reward excellence.

For the first time this year, Basketball and Hockey are the latest sports disciplines to be added after their respective leagues got underway.

Football and Athletics are the other two categories to have nominees for the crowning ceremony due Tuesday, June 1 2021 at Route 256 restaurant in Lugogo, Kampala.

The awards are sponsored by Fortebet Uganda, Canaan Drinks and Jude Colour Solutions

Last month winners were Jas mangat (Motorsport), James Ijongat (Rugby) and Sam Ssekamatte (Football) while former FUFA President Hajji Twaha Kakaire was the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award

Football shortlist

Eric Kambale: He managed to score eight goals in the six games he played for Express in May both league and Uganda Cup. Eight of these goals have all come from league while he was not on the scoreheet when Express and KCCA settled to goalless draw in the first leg quarterfinal match of the Uganda Cup. He was on scoresheet as Express beat Police 2-0 at Wankulukuku stadium. Kambale also notched a hattrick in Express 3-2 win away to Kyetume. He also scored a brace as Express beat Kitara 4-0 at home and was also on the scoreheet as Express defeated UPDF and Busoga United 1-0 and 4-0 respectively.

Goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga: Express goalkeeper has kept four cleans sheets in the five games he has been in charge. He kept clean sheets as Express beat Police,2-0, Busoga United 4-0, UPDF 1-0, and Kitara 4-0. He only conceded against Kyetume in 3-2 victory for Express.

Steven Mukwala: The URA FC forward has managed to score 4-0 goals in the five games featured in the league. He scored a brace as URA defeated UPDF 2-1. He was also on the scoresheet as URA beat Police and Onduparaka 3-1 each respectively. His performance enabled URA to remain title contention.

Hockey Shortlist

Wanainchi sc striker Opio Thomas scored 10 goals in 4 games 2 against Vikings, 3 against MUK stingers, 3 against MUBS and 2 ageist city lions.

Timothy Ntumba from weatherhead scored 8 goals in the four games of may 5 goals against Historicals, goals against MUBS and didn’t score any in the last two games.

Charles Ekapolon goal keeper weatherhead hockey club played four games, finished the first three with clean without conceding a goal and conceded 3 goals in the last game as his team lost 2:3 to Kampala hockey club stallions.

Basketball Shortlist

Hope Akello. JKL lady Dolphins.Averaged league leading 18.5 pointsn 12.3 rebounds in four rounds. All victories.

Samuel Ajaka Ndejje angels averaged 18.2 in four games.

Faisal Aden averaged 20 points KIU titans wonfour games in row n went into second on the table

Athletics shortlist

Cheptegei won gold in 3000m at Ostrava Golden Spike Championship in Czech Republic though he fell short on breaking a world record.

Chesang recorded time of 9:04:15 in 3000m at the 8th Uganda Athletics Federation National Trials in Namboole to book a ticket to the World U-20 Athletics Championships. The qualification time was 9:25:00.

Kiplimo won gold in 10000m at Ostrava Golden Spike Championship in Czech Republic and his time booked him a ticket for 10000m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
