Rines are the first team to reach this year’s FUFA Women Elite League finals after they eliminated Bunyaruguru Girls on penalties on Tuesday.

After eliminating Dynamic SS in the Quarter Finals in similar fashion, Rines also needed another shootouts to take care of Bunyaruguru after drawing 0-0 in 90 minutes.

With a chance to play in the final at stake, both teams took a cagey approach with limited scoring chances created as a result.

In the end, nothing could separate them in normal time.

Rines WFC will have their goalkeeper Elise Najjemba to thank as she kept out Aine Adela’s penalty while the custodian stood firm to also see Katushabe Halim’s kick go wide.

After converting all of their first four kicks, Rines progressed after winning three spots 4-3.

Nalule Shakirah, Nagayi Eva, Kayesu Yuster and Wujja Catherine all scored their respective penalties for Rines.

After the game, Rines head coach Bright Nyanzi noted that he is happy for his side’s qualification for the final and he gives thanks to the almighty.

“We thank the almighty for helping us reach this far and it is all about him. Nyanzi said.

“I am happy and glad for my players because it hasn’t been a simple task.”

In the finals slated on Thursday 3rd June, Rines will face the winner between Wakiso Hills and She Maroons who face off later on Tuesday.
