Bunyaruguru Girls finished third at this year’s FUFA Women Elite League after defeating Wakiso Hills 2-1 in the third-place play-off match played on Thursday morning at Njeru.

The game also ensured Bunyaruguru Girls bags UGX 3.5m for their efforts throughout the campaign.

Norah Alupo scored a brace on the day to ensure that the Rubirizi based side walk out victorious while Sarah Namatovu netted for Wakiso.

Alupo opened the scoring on 21 minutes to register her 4th goal of the competition.

However, their lead didn’t last for long as six minutes later, Namatovu headed in home to level matters and ensure the two sides head into the break locked at 1-1.

Bunyaruguru looked the better side in the early exchanges of the second half and it was no surprise that Alupo restored their lead on 65 minutes.

Despite late pressure from Wakiso, Bunyaruguru held on to seal the victory.

Important to note is that just as the concluded FUFA Women Super League, the Women Elite League has also been played in a tournament format.

Rines WFC and She Maroons will contest the final that will be played later in the day.
