Police FC 0-2 Wakiso Giants FC (AGG: 3-3)
Omondi Stadium, Lugogo
Friday, June 04
Police FC held on to ensure they progressed to the semi finals of the Uganda Cup on Friday.
The Cops who won the first leg 3-1 lost 2-0 to Wakiso Giants at Lugogo but progressed on away goals rule.
Vianne Ssekajugo scored a brace for Wakiso but it was not enough to see them reach the last four.
After a crazy start to the contest that saw either side miss good scoring chances, Ssekajugo put the visitors ahead on 19 minutes, volleying into the far corner off Tom Masiko’s diagonal free-kick.
His second could not come until the 65th minute as he robbed goalkeeper Tom Ikara who was attempting to waste time, of the ball before slotting into an empty net.
Wakiso will feel they deserved more from the game as they missed several chances to flip the tie on it’s head.
With the game at 0-0, Joshua Lubwama missed from the spot after Eric Ssenjobe had brought down Ssekajugo in the area.
The lively Ivan Bogere and Ssekajugo also failed to find the target when presented with decent scoring chances with the latter missing out on a chance to bag a hat trick as his effort from inside the area rattled the cross bar.
Police who came into the game with one foot in the semi finals could have put the contest to bed early only for their wastfulness in front of goal to put them under reasonable pressure late in the game.
Derrick Kakooza who started ahead of Brian Mululi found himself one-on-one with Samson Kirya in the Wakiso goal but shot straight at the custodian and Sseninde’s rebound was charged down by desperate defending from Atendele Geriga.
Ben Ocen was also twice denied by Kirya from inside the area.
Police join BUL FC and Vipers SC as the first three sides to book a spot in the semi finals of this year’s competition.
Express FC and KCCA FC will tussle it out for the final spot at Lugogo later on Friday.
