Omitted Players Should Wait For Their Chance – Cranes Coach Mubiru

Uganda Cranes interim head coach Abdallah Mubiru on Monday named the final squad for the South Africa friendly.

The final squad saw some players left out but Mubiru rallied them to remain positive and wait for their chances.

According to FUFA, the Cranes will fly out tonight aboard Uganda airlines at 8:40pm for the friendly on June 10.

“We thank the almighty Allah, that we have come to the end of our training here in Uganda as we prepare to play a friendly game with South Africa on Thursday,” started a soft-spoken gaffer.

The final squad is made up of 15 Uganda Premier league players as most professional players were not initially summoned.

The Police coach added:

“We have set the 23 players but am so happy and glad with the effort, commitment, all members who have been in the camp, everyone was eager to represent their country.

“But unfortunately, we named only 23 but everyone is still positive and only waiting for their chance, everyone still has a chance and they should continue working hard as they wait for their chances.

Despite their impressive form in the league, players like Yunus Ssentamu, Joseph Akandanwaho among other have been overlooked.

Ahead of their friendly against South Africa, Mubiru says they are going to assess the players and they expect better results.

“This is now the beginning, all what we are looking at is to assess how these members are going to represent themselves in the match but am very positive and thank God for enabling us prepare this environment.

“We are looking towards achieving better results and performances.”

The Cranes will use the friendly to fine tune for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers where they are pooled in Group E alongside giants Mali, neighbours Kenya and Rwanda.
