Andre Onana: Cameroon Goalkeeper’s Doping Ban Reduced

Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has reduced the ban on AFC Ajax and Cameroon 25-year-old goalkeeper Andre Onana from 12 months to nine.

Earlier in February this year, UEFA banned Onana after finding the forbidden Furosemide substance in his Urine following a test that was done in October 2020. He was then banned from all football activities.

However, on thursday June 10th, a panel of CAS arbitrators in charge of the matter partially upheld the player’s appeal and reduced his ban that commenced on February 4th 2021.

The new developments mean that Onana will now be able to play again from 3rd November 2021.

Earlier in his defense, Onana had said the violation was the result of a mistake, as he accidentally took a medicine meant for his girlfriend on the morning of October 30th.

This brings some good news to both his country and Club as he will be able to return to action earlier than expected.
