Mawejje Strike Not Enough As Bright Stars Deny Police

Joseph Janjali scored an 89th minute freekick to cancel out Tonny Mawejje first half strike to salvage a point for Bright Stars in a Startimes Uganda Premier League game played at the MTN Omondi Stadium.

Police FC remain winless in their last six games while Bright Stars have now gone three matches without a win.

Veteran Midfielder Mawejje tapped in a rebound from a point blank range to put the Cops in front in the 10th minute.

Looking to double their lead, Defender Hassan Muhamood sent a stunning shot from the center but his effort went inches wide.

Hosts Police FC went into the break with a narrow 1-0 lead.

The Visitors survived another scare after Brian Mululi header hit the post.

In the 89th minutes, Janjali levelled late for the Visitors from the freekick after Hassan Muhamood foul on the edge of the 18 yards box.

The reverse fixture in the first round ended 2-2 at Kavumba.

The resullt means that Police remain in the 6th position with 40 points after 27 matches while Bright Stars are 5th with 42 points.

Police FC return to action on Tuesday June 22nd away to Onduparaka at the Greenlight stadium in Arua.

Bright stars next assignment will be against relegation threatened Kyetume at the Kavumba Recreation Ground on Wednesday 23rd June.
