The future of JKL Sports Franchise is set to hit rock bottom after the shocking resignation of club president Jeff Nyagenya.
Nyagenya wrote to the club confirming that he will step aside at the end of this month.
In his resignation, he has cited ‘disrespect’ and ‘underperformance’ of the Men’s team among others.
JKL Franchise is also home for two-time defending NBL Champions JKL Lady Dolphins, JKL Junior teams and the academy.
The ambitious president is expected to take the Junior teams and the Academy, leaving Fredrick ‘Freedom’ Owora with the two NBL teams
Technical Director Freedom has denied claims of having any misunderstanding with Jeff.
He was unveiled as the Club President in December 2018 for as the club announced formidable changes including the rebrand of their logo for the team that was founded in 2015.
The ‘disrespect’ is said to have manifested in many ways but it all started when the two top bosses divided responsibility – Freedom took over the Girls as Jeff handled the boys, in terms of welfare and salaries.
Its that separation that took away the Franchise’s cohesion. Many claim that Freedom and Jeff’s relationship had deteriorated earlier after both parties were ill advised on who should do what and when.
Jeff will be off starting July, the men’s contracts have been terminated, he sent the emails to players before meeting them.
It is said that he had already wanted to break off with Freedom, and he has confirmed that he will be ending paying men’s salaries this June.
Freedom will be paying the mens as well, starting next month and he is very angry given the short notice that Jeff has given.
Before League suspension, the Men’s team were 6th on a 10-team log having won three from seven games including losses against title competitors City Oilers and Nam Blazers.
The exit is a big blow to the franchise that had bigger plans including having its own arena. They had made marquee signings of John Balwigaire, Christian Milambu etc fronting themselves as the top favourites to end City Oilers invincibility.
