Vipers SC hirachcy has narrowed down to appoint a local mentor as their next head coach rather than hire services of a foreign coach, The-SportsNation has learnt.
The Kitende based side are on a look out of a suitable candidate to fill the vacant post left by Fred Kajoba who won the side their fourth league title.
The former Bright Stars Coach, who is the latest victim of the Vipers SC coach revolving door, chose to remain as National team Goal Keeping coach and dumped his Viper’s job in the same process.
Paul Kiwanuka was left to act in the capacity of interim coach until the end of the season but what is certain is that the club is expected to install a long term high profile coach after the completion of this season.
And Credible sources close to team’s corridors of power say club owner Lawrance Mulindwa has informed his technical team head by Steven Mulindwa that the key factor in the recurtiment process is to ensure the club zeroes on a quality local coaches, rather than settling for some body, because they’re from abroad.
It’s believed that Mulindwa’s Knee jerk decisions of hiring foreign coaches have not produced desire results and often ends up with coaches who are referred as to as plumbers by local fans, because they don’t believe they were coaches in their own countries to begin with.
For that Case, the former FUFA president wants to buck the trend.
Vipers have filtered with Mexican Martinez Javier Espinoza, Kenyan Micheal Nam Ouma and Portuguese Miguel Da Costa in the recent past. With the exception of the latter, who won the side’s third league title in 2018, the rest flattered to decisive.
Vipers flipped philosophy from Fred Kajoba’s expansive brand of football, on the front foot with high press was unpopular at Kitende.
And It is thought that Mulindwa is looking for someone who can tutor progressive Football with focus on bringing through younger talent, and the coach would currently have to work with a transfer committee regarding player signings, rather than have full say on who comes in and out.
Having discussed a lengthy selection of names based on the above criteria, Mulindwa is now understood to have narrowed down the possible candidates to a shortlist a head of starting talks with potential new managers.
Mike Mutebi in pole Position.
Out of work coach Mike Mutebi is believed to be talked of in high regard as a suitable candidate to take over the the Vipers SC hotseat.
For his tactical flexibility, exciting brand of football and promotion of young players, The 51-Year-old Mutebi is viewed as the right man who ticks all the boxes and has the ability to steady the Vipers Ship.
Sources have revealed that a bumper three year contract has been tabled before the eccentric gaffer with the nitty-gritty financial details believed to be hefty.
Current Uganda Cranes coach and Uganda Police FC coach Abdallah Mubiru is also an option to return for a second stint while Edward Golola, who has won two league titles with Kitende based side countinues to pursue a move back to a place he calls home.
However, most of the energies have been geared towards getting Mutebi.
Secondly Mutebi is said to be close friends with club chief Lawrance Mulindwa and the relationship is seen as a huge catalyst to sawy Mutebi’s gaze to Kitende.
Mutebi oversaw a successful five year stint with KCCA FC winning three league titles and is undoubtedly one of the most sought after coaches in Uganda.
He was close to joining Rwandan club Kiyovu SC but the deal reportedly fall through due to Mutebi’s huge financial demands.
